Intellectual Property and Data Privacy

Often times when we speak of data privacy we focus on things like personally identifiable information, medical records, credit card numbers, financial accounts, employee and customer data, or business operational data. Sometimes forgotten is what we call IP data or intellectual property. This type of data can include design schematics, ingredients, software coding, patents, trade secrets, and industrial designs.

Recently the FBI announced they have over 1,000 cases of IP technology theft impacting US businesses and higher education institutions. One of the most important steps any small business can take is reviewing all of its data types and identifying its most critical data. Once identified, the small business needs to take appropriate steps to securing it. Check out the Small Business Big Threat website to sign up for our upcoming webinar on Data Protection Policies!
