Caution: Web Browser Extensions Vulnerable
Do you have a favorite web browser? I know I do, I also have useful and handy extensions I use with my favorite browser. They help speed up my ability to use the web browser, get me where I need to quicker, and even block those annoying ads on my browser. While they can certainly be useful, they also increase your vulnerability to cyber criminals. Threatpost, recently published an article about how cyber criminals use different web applications to exploit the extensions you have installed for your web browsers.
Now the good news! Despite seeing cyber criminals do this, it does not mean to stop using your extensions. As most things cybersecurity related, it is about accepting risk. You should always verify who the creator of the extension is; verify a reputable company creates it. You should ask yourself if you really need the extension. You should check the extensions permission and access to your device and data. Lastly, when in doubt, do not use the extension.
