National Cybersecurity Awareness Month Week 1
October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and the National Cyber Security Alliance has a theme for each week for the month. This week’s theme is “Make your home a haven for online safety”. Week 1 talks about practicing cybersecurity habits at home, just like you do at your small business. Just like at your small business, you are always connected to the internet while at home too.
Keeping your small business data safe while at home is just as important while in the office. Having a properly configured network and wireless router with a unique username and password is vital to preventing other people from sharing your network. For many people, connecting to business data from personal devices is quite popular, so it is important to make sure your devices also have a strong antivirus program along with a username and password to login to the device with. Consider using a virtual private network, which encrypts your communication over the internet, even though you are on your home network.
