New malware discovered

Kaspersky Labs has recently discovered a new malware that has been in use since 2013. The new malware, Dark Tequila, has been discovered infecting Mexican financial institutions. The malware can steal your banking data along with login credentials from many popular websites, including Office 365, Lotus Notes, Amazon, GoDaddy, and Dropbox. The malware is installed via phishing emails or through an infected USB storage device.

This is not uncommon for malware to take several years to be discovered by cybersecurity practitioners. In this particular case, the malware would only fully install if the computer met certain criteria, one being if the computer has an anti-virus solution in place. If it does, the malware would uninstall itself to hide detection. This just illustrates the importance of having an anti-virus solution installed on your computer; it is necessary, as it is usually your first line of defense for your computer!
