Secure your Mac

June 28, 2022 - 2 minutes read

It is time to secure your Mac computer. Did you know that your Mac computer is vulnerable to cybercriminals? I know from experience many Mac computer users thought they were immune to cyber attacks and that they didn’t even need antivirus software. This is not the case and it is time to secure your Mac.

Mac security configuration

Now that you know you need to secure your Mac, how do you go about doing this? The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) just published SP 800-219, Automated Secure Configuration Guidance from the macOS Security Compliance Project. NIST states this can be used for both Mac desktops and Mac laptops. This particular NIST publication focuses on securing Mac devices in an automated way. This means you may need a professional to assist you.

Do it yourself

While you may need a professional to follow along with the SP 800-219 from NIST, there are other things you can do to help secure your Mac devices.

  • Run antivirus software
  • Backup your device
  • Utilize multifactor authentication
  • Use a virtual private network when on unsecured networks
  • Be cybersmart

While these might seem like the basics for some small businesses, others will see these as new habits to develop. Wherever you are on your cybersecurity journey, it is important to remember cybersecurity takes time and effort to achieve!
