“Hey, I need some gift cards purchased, can you scratch off the backs and give me the confirmation numbers and send me a picture of them?” “Hey, the old accounts are not working can you send the funds to this new account?”
You or a coworker may have received emails like the examples above. Are they legitimate emails from your boss? Are they something more devious? Chances are they are devious! These type of attacks are now quite common and can be devastating. These attacks can rob small businesses of thousands of dollars, just for believing the email is a legitimate request.
These low-tech attacks can be minimized by having a strong cybersecurity culture. Part of this culture is having properly trained employees and strong business policies and procedures.
