Data breach may have exposed 600,000 Michigan residents

On March 7, 2019, it was reported that the data breach took place at Wolverine Solutions Group in September of 2018 might have exposed more records than initially reported. The breach might have exposed 600,000 residents in the state of Michigan who are members of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Health Alliance Plan, McLaren Health Care, Three Rivers Health, and North Ottawa Community Health Systems, according to Michigan’s state attorney general. The data breach exposed names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and medical information.

When events like this happen, it is strongly encouraged to reach out to the business who suffered the data breach and inquire about what they are doing to protect you from the misuse of the stolen data. It is also encouraged to reach out to the nationwide credit reporting agencies and enable fraud alert notifications. It is also encouraged to regularly check your personal accounts including your medical insurance accounts, financial accounts, email accounts, and all other appropriate accounts for abuse or misuse.
