Mail phishing scam

By now, we are all familiar with email phishing scams, but have you heard of phishing scams through the mail? That is right; KrebsOnSecurity is reporting several U.S. state and local government agencies have received letters via the U.S. mail that contained CDs filled with malware. Unsuspecting computer users are then inserting the CD and unknowingly installing malware on their devices.

This is a great reminder that cyber threats can take many forms and phishing attacks do not always occur through email. A good rule of thumb is to not insert CDs, DVDs, flash drives, or other forms or portable storage into your computer unless you trust where you received them. If you find a flash drive in the parking lot or in this case a CD in the mail, do not let your curiosity get the better of you!
