World Cup Malware

Some good news on the malware front, EnigmaSoft, a computer software company, has reported that on days a country has a team playing a game in the World Cup, there are fewer malware attacks in that country. They estimated that on average, there was a 20% drop on game days. Unfortunately, the following day would go back to the normal amount of malware attacks. EnigmaSoft suggested this is because people turned off their computers and watched the games.

This a good reminder that not all devices need to be on all the time. If you have non-business critical devices, it might be okay to leave them off when not in use. While this may cause a slightly longer start time, it can also prevent the device from being a target. You also want to verify automatic updates to the device resume once powered on again.
