One of the biggest cybersecurity threats to a small business is having employees who are unaware of the dangers of cyber threats. According to IBM, 95% of all cybersecurity incidents involve human error. This can be anything from not updating or patching computers, servers, and software to clicking on malicious links in email or on websites. One of the best ways to combat this is by having a strong cybersecurity awareness program.

A good cybersecurity awareness program requires a strong cybersecurity culture. The program should be purposeful and structured. It should be engaging and rewarding. Expect mistakes, especially early on. Provide continuous awareness and training, consider more than annual training. Lastly, create achievable employee and business wide cybersecurity goals and celebrate meeting and surpassing the goals.
